First 5 ingredients
Organic Chicken – skin, meat and bone. Before cooking is measured with moisture content. This allows it to be at beginning of ingredients list because water makes it heavy. After cooking it loses most of its nutrients (as well as the water), making the final product lighter and actually low in protein. Still considered a high quality ingredient despite all this.
Organic Dehydrated Chicken – skin, meat and bone. This chicken has had the moisture content removed before being added to the formula. This means that it is not as heavy therefore it being at the top of the ingredients list means a lot of the dehydrated chicken is in the formula, which is good.
Organic Peas – used more for its binding and bulking of food. They provide a little nutrition but not enough for it to be here for its nutritional properties. Another source of carbohydrate.
Lentils – Like beans, lentils are a part of the legume family. They are high in protein however it is not meat protein. Cats need meat protein.
Chicken Fat – provides an abundance of Omega 6 fatty acids, perhaps too much in large amounts. A source of energy and is actually essential in a cats diet. Also makes the food more palatable.
|Great meat protein sources||Lower protein percentage overall; higher carbs|

This Petcurean formula really limits the amount of filler ingredients present as compared to the company’s other dry food formulas. This dry food is not as high in protein as the other foods in this top 5 list however it is a quality food. There are carbohydrate substitutes present however. This brand prides itself on using quality USDA organic protein sources; it shows the brand cares about the quality of cat food they are producing. Overall, a quality dry cat food.
